How much does crash data removal cost?

Find out how much crash data removal from an SRS module costs. We explain what affects the price, what's included, and why it's far cheaper than a new module.

After a collision, one of the first questions on your mind is "how much is this going to cost me?". The airbag warning light is on, your mechanic says the SRS module needs replacing, and the dealership quotes a price for a new unit that makes your stomach drop. Before you spend thousands on a new part, it's worth knowing that crash data removal from your existing module costs a fraction of that amount. In this article, we break down the costs in full detail.

What affects the price of crash data removal?

The price isn't the same for every SRS module, and there's a good reason for that. The cost of repair depends primarily on the generation and architecture of the module.

Older modules (manufactured roughly until 2010-2015) store crash data in an external EEPROM memory chip. Repairing these is relatively straightforward - it involves reading the memory with a programmer, editing the data, and reprogramming the chip. Newer modules store data directly in the processor's built-in memory, which requires more advanced techniques and equipment.

The second factor is the manufacturer and model of the module. Some manufacturers use additional protections - encryption, software locks, or non-standard memory layouts. A Toyota module may require a completely different approach than a Volkswagen unit, even if both are from the same year.

The third factor is the repair method. Simple modules only require EEPROM work. More complex cases may need access through JTAG, BDM, or other processor debugging interfaces. The more advanced the method, the more time and specialist knowledge is required.

Our pricing model - price assigned to part number

At autosterowniki.pl we use a transparent pricing system: every SRS module part number has a specific price assigned to it. No hidden fees, no surprises after we open the package.

How does it work in practice? You enter your module's part number into our search tool on the homepage, and the system immediately shows you the repair price. No need to call, negotiate, or wait for a quote. The price you see is the price you pay.

If you're unsure where to find the part number on your module, read our guide on finding your part number - we explain step by step how to locate it.

Approximate price ranges:

  • Simpler modules (older generations, external EEPROM) - from a few dozen PLN (~15-25 EUR)
  • Medium complexity modules - 100-250 PLN (~25-60 EUR)
  • Complex modules (newer generations, on-chip memory, additional protections) - up to several hundred PLN

The exact price depends on the specific part number. Always check using the search tool.

What's included in the price?

You're paying for a complete service, not just "poking at a chip". The price includes:

  • Module diagnostics - we check the condition of the unit before starting work
  • Professional crash data removal - restoring the module to factory state
  • Post-repair verification - we make sure the module is ready for installation
  • Up to 1 month warranty - if any issue related to our repair appears after installation, we fix it free of charge

The only additional cost is shipping - both to us and back. You arrange shipping yourself, choosing either InPost Paczkomat or courier delivery. Turnaround time? We repair most modules the same day, maximum within 2-3 business days.

How much do the alternatives cost?

To judge whether crash data removal is worth it, let's compare it with other options:

A new SRS module from an authorised dealer costs 800-3000+ PLN (~200-750 EUR) for the unit alone, plus the cost of programming (coding the module to your specific VIN) and labour. The total bill can easily exceed 4000 PLN (~1000 EUR).

A used SRS module from a scrapyard seems cheaper (200-800 PLN / ~50-200 EUR), but carries significant risk. First, the used module may also have crash data stored. Second, it requires coding to your car's VIN, which generates additional costs. Third, you have no guarantee that a module from a salvage yard is fully functional.

Crash data removal from your original module (our service) costs from a few dozen to several hundred PLN. The module returns to factory state, requires no coding (because it's still your original unit, already paired with your car), and you receive a warranty on the service performed.

The difference is obvious. With crash data repair, you save up to 80-90% compared to replacing with a new module.

"No fix, no fee" policy

There are situations where a module is physically damaged or we're unable to repair it for another reason. What happens then?

If we can't remove the crash data, we don't charge anything. We ship the module back at our expense. You only pay for a successful repair. There's no financial risk on your side - apart from the cost of shipping to us.

This policy is self-evident to us. We don't want to earn money from failed attempts. Either we repair it and you pay, or we return the module and consider the matter closed.

How to order the service?

The process is simple:

  1. Check the price for your module using the search tool on the homepage by entering the part number
  2. Ship the module to our address (InPost Paczkomat WAW15HO or courier to Karmelicka 11/6, 00-155 Warsaw, Poland)
  3. We repair the module (usually the same day)
  4. We notify you when the repair is complete
  5. After you transfer the payment, we ship the module back using your preferred method

Payment is made only after the service is completed, via bank transfer. No upfront payments. All prices are in PLN (Polish zloty).

Summary

The cost of crash data removal depends on the specific module and ranges from a few dozen to several hundred PLN - far less than a new SRS module from a dealer. The price includes full service with diagnostics, warranty, and a "no fix, no fee" guarantee. Check the price for your part number using the search tool on our homepage and see how much you'll save.
